New SGA Sworn In

in TCNJ

The newly elected SGA members were sworn in today. Some appointments were also made by SGA President Eric Pasternack to fill in some openings. Michael Levy was appointed as VP of Administration and Finance, John Ronan was appointed as a Senator of Business, Stephanie Cwynar was appointed as Sophomore Class Treasurer, and Steve Viola was appointed as Junior Class Treasurer.

And under the old administration a resolution was passed “Requesting the Implementation of Student Positions for Departmental Committee Meetings.” Under this resolution, each department would be encouraged to create student positions that will help represent the student body within that particular department, and student positions would receive voting rights within these committees equal to those provided to members of the faculty. The Political Science department also received a commendation for having added student positions to committee meetings in order to meet the needs and requests of the student body.

In a personal note, I spoke up during the open floor for agenda items in support of this resolution. The Computer Science department was going to institute something similar a few years ago. They even took nominations for student representatives from each class. Unfortunately the effort stalled and nothing every came of the applications. Hopefully this resolution will encourage departments to gather greater feedback from the students during their discussions and decisions. (Side note: the resolution passed unanimously)
