Wii Supply To Grow With New Suppliers

in Wii

Nintendo is working to add more suppliers for parts needed in the Wii game console, at least according to a report on EMSNow (taken from CENS). “Nintendo recently determined to contract more dedicated assemblers as well as control-chip and component suppliers for its Wii out of concern of diversifying risk at a time when the sales of the game consoles are hot throughout the world.”

What this means is that there will be more suppliers for the parts, meaning more Wiis can be created to supply the demand. It is assumed from the wording of the report that PixArt Imaging’s chips have been a bottleneck, and that Nintendo is going to have another supplier create after-market replacements for their chips. And in the future Nintendo won’t rely on a single manufacturer, which definitely makes sense.

I wouldn’t expect to see a greatly updated version of the Wii, since there is still enormous demand and many of the highly anticipated games have yet to be released. I would say they have at least another year before they would even think of changing the hardware. Of course I know nothing, and I wish my Wii played DVDs.
