Nintendo is working to add more suppliers for parts needed in the Wii game console, at least according to a report on EMSNow (taken from CENS). “Nintendo recently determined to contract more dedicated assemblers as well as control-chip and component suppliers for its Wii out of concern of diversifying risk at a time when the sales of the game consoles are hot throughout the world.”
What this means is that there will be more suppliers for the parts, meaning more Wiis can be created to supply the demand. It is assumed from the wording of the report that PixArt Imaging’s chips have been a bottleneck, and that Nintendo is going to have another supplier create after-market replacements for their chips. And in the future Nintendo won’t rely on a single manufacturer, which definitely makes sense.
I wouldn’t expect to see a greatly updated version of the Wii, since there is still enormous demand and many of the highly anticipated games have yet to be released. I would say they have at least another year before they would even think of changing the hardware. Of course I know nothing, and I wish my Wii played DVDs.
Nintendo unveiled Wii Fit at yesterday’s E3 presentation. It works with a special balance board to enable you to perform various fun activities that give you a workout. Too bad I just joined a gym.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is coming out for the Wii on May 14, 2007. I found this video of how you can use the Wii’s remote and nunchuck to easily play the game. I can’t wait to be able to easily form attacks and combos. You can also still use the GameCube or Classic controller, but why would you want to?
UNEASYsilence is running a contest to give a Wii to someone who posts online about the contest. I am sick of contests like these, for which I never win. Plus I already have a Wii. So in not promoting the contest I have in actuality promoted the contest.
In other news I am eagerly anticipating new Wii games. Only a month to wait for good stuff like Heatseeker and Mortal Kombat Armageddon which look promising with the Wii remote.
Heatseeker is a new game coming to the Wii, PS2, and PSP that offers air combat. You play in a future where you need to hunt down terrorists, WMDs, and nuclear arms. You get to fly a whole range of real fighters and bombers. The impact cam lets you see targets explode in spectacular fashion. You don’t just target, fire, and then find the next enemy.
I can’t wait until this game comes out in May and I can pick it up. The controls on the Wii should be great, as the video(s) below shows. Read the rest of this entry »
My SuperBowl prediction is based on playing Madden 2007 on the Wii last night. The Chicago Bears were pitted against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts won the toss and elected to receive. The score was 49 to 44 in favor of Da Bears. The only reason the Colts scored so well was that my friend kept throwing deep passes that were impossible to defend no matter how much I tried. We will see tomorrow whether this prediction holds up. Super Bowl XLI starts Sunday at 6:25 p.m. EST on CBS.
The Opera browser has been released for the Wii. This is a beta version, which I will hopefully be able to play with tomorrow. According to reports on Wiiloaded.com most sites will work and the Wii can play flash videos. There is no Java support, and you can’t use a usb keyboard. It also doesn’t allow tabbed browsing. I will post more about browsing on the Wii once I get the chance to try it out.
Word on the street is that JoyTech is releasing a Wii PowerStation (Amazon UK) that docks two Wiimotes with rechargeable battery packs. It should be coming towards the end of January. Of course you can do like me and buy some rechargeable AA batteries. They last a while and once you have the charger the batteries get less-expensive.
Nintendo is now replacing the straps on Wii remotes with stronger ones. This is a voluntary replacement. Just fill out this form and then Nintendo will start shipping strap replacements on December 21. It will take 5-9 days for delivery. Remember to practice remote safety and wipe your hands. Happy Wii-ing (or is that not the action verb form of Wii?).
