Nexus Trade Places in TCNJ Business Plan Competition

I placed second with Nexus Trade in the Business Plan Competition sponsored by the School of Business and Small Business Development Center at The College of New Jersey. First prize was $1,000 and second prize was $600, so I came out okay. :)

T-shirt of the Day: WTSR

T-shirt of the Day: WTSR

Today’s shirt is from WTSR 91.3, the TCNJ campus radio station. It’s mostly student run and for the past few years I’ve been a DJ there with a show at any given time. Next semester I won’t be having a show on WTSR. I have three of these shrits so I can’t just stop wearing them. Plus I like the shirts; they make me feel cool. I will be running an internet-only podcast at RadioFirefox.com starting in January, and sitting in on the shows of friends from time-to-time.

Absentee Ballot Drive Issues

in TCNJ

Did you fill out an absentee ballot on the TCNJ campus? If so then it may not have been approved by your county clerk. I just got a letter at my home address stating that my absentee ballot application was received on November 1st, after the seven day deadline for applications to be approved. It then states than I can apply for one in person. So if you have yet to receive your absentee ballot that may mean that you never will. In which case you will need to head to your county clerk’s office or to your local polling place. You can find your county clerk’s office here.

I am posting this as a TCNJ student, and not as an SGA Senator. I just thought people should know so that they can fix any problems while there is still a bit of time. Hopefully the problem is limited.

How to Find a Freshman

How do you tell if someone is a college Freshman? They generally travel in large packs, at least in the beginning of the year. And they hang their IDs on their neck, having not yet learned how easy they are to lose.

Note: When I first thought of this post a few hours ago it sounded a lot funnier in my head. But after a short nap it no longer does. Oh well. Anyone read any interesting news? Have any funny stories?

SGA Interest Sessions

in TCNJ

Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to have a voice? Do you want to be involved in big decisions? The Student Government Association is holding interest sessions where you can learn more about the SGA and how to become a member. All students are welcome to attend and there will be food.

Senators and Class Council members have the same rights and privileges, but different responsibilities. Also, due to a clerical error that was just discovered there are an enormous number of open Senator-At-Large positions. This is the position I currently hold from the Spring elections. You work for all students, instead of focusing on a specific school such as Science or Engineering. Though all members ideally work for all of the students.

Interest Sessions:

  • Wednesday, September 6th, 6:00 p.m. in T/W Main Lounge
  • Thursday, September 7th, 8:30 p.m. in Decker Main Lounge
  • Friday September 8th, 5:30 p.m. in Cromwell Main Lounge

All interest sessions are the same, so you only need to attend one. If you plan to run for a position you need to attend one of these.

Positions available:
Senators: 1 Senator of Education, 1 Senator of Engineering, 1 Senator of Culture and Society, 2 Senators of Art, Media, and Music, 1 Senator of Science, 7 Senators-at-Large.

Class Council: Senior Class Secretary, Junior Class Treasurer, Sophomore Class Treasurer, Freshman Class President, Freshman Class Vice President, Freshman Class Secretary, Freshman Class Treasurer

An unlimited amount of Associate Member positions! Associate Members have less responsibilities, and can only vote in committee meetings. Each executive vice president holds a meeting where they handle their positions duties, such as Legal & Governmental affairs where new legislation is brought forth for preliminary discussion and proofing.

If you have any questions let me know in the comments or use the contact form here. I will either answer your question or forward it to the elections chair if I don’t know the answer.

No More Free Toilet Paper

in TCNJ

TCNJ Residence halls will no longer be providing free toilet paper and trash bags to residents. So make sure you buy in bulk beforehand if you plan to use the bathrooms. I doubt the campus prices would offer a good deal, and you won’t be able to use your meal points on toilet paper.

This has been a public service announcement from you friendly neighborhood Senator. Though how friendly I really am is up for debate. Cheerio.

Roommate Switch on Paper Day is April 26

in TCNJ

Are you looking to switch your room for the Fall? You can do it before you actually move in, but you only have a 2-day window to get the paperwork and hand it in so you need to do it right away. The paperwork is available on the 24th, and it is due April 26th. Follow the steps listed below. (Please note: All students who selected a room during the Room Selection period [Monday, April 3rd - April 11th] are eligible to participate in this Room Change Day)

  1. Examine the updated, current vacancies that are available on campus for the Fall 2006 academic semester. The updated vacancies link will be here on April 24th at 12:00pm.
  2. Visit Residence Assignments in Townhouses South to pick up and fill out a Room Change Request Form starting on April 24th 2006. If you are looking to switch rooms with someone, your current and proposed roommates must both sign your room change form. If you are looking to move into a vacant space in a double room, no signatures are required on your room change form. If you have no current or proposed roommate, please leave that area on the Room Change Form blank.
  3. After filling out all applicable parts of the Room Change Request Form, submit your form to the Residence Assignments area on Wednesday, April 26th for approval. Note: Do not change rooms without receiving approval from the Residence Assignments area. This is a violation that may result in a judicial sanction.

They will be granting room change requests on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not hesitate to call (609) 771-2301 or e-mail resassig@tcnj.edu with any questions or concerns that you may have.

I Love Me Some Boxes of Food

in TCNJ

It’s that time of year again when the convenience store stocks up on boxes of food so that you can spend the last of your meal plan points. The money that you don’t spend cannot be carried over to the next year, so make sure you use it up. The boxes go quick, and you could be stuck with a lot of unusable points at the end of the semester. But also don’t use up so much that you can’t buy food for the rest of the semester. There are still 16 days to feed your faces.

Anyone want a pack of M&Ms? I have 48 of them.
