Marketing Through Rivalry
I came across this interesting article on how starting a rivalry can be an easy source of exposure for your website or product. Now I won’t go into all the details (you’ll have to read the article for that), but I will explain how creating a rivalry can be disadvantageous.
If you start a rivalry with another site or blog they should also have the type of audience that you are looking to attract, or their site’s topic should be related to yours in some way. You don’t want to start an argument with a site whose visitors won’t even care about your website or product. Also, there are many things that can go wrong with this type of marketing. You can seriously hurt your brand if you aren’t careful, especially if your arguments are baseless and uncalled for. You do not want to mess with the wrong people.
